Water Aerobics


Today was my first water aerobics lesson
It was so good. The water was warm; the teacher is very young, but very nice and quite patient.
I liked it very much but it was very tiring. At the end of the lesson I didn’t want to do anything at all.

I met some people, whom I hadn’t seen for a long time. We laughed a lot, because I made many mistakes.
Next lesson it ‘ll be better

Health- How many ways are there to get medical help

I’ m going to speak about some recognized alternative types of medicine.
The Chinese Traditional Medicine is one of the alternative types of medicine that is being offered in different parts of the world.
Acupuncture is part of this medicine and is used to heal the pain. Very thin needles are strategically placed on the body’s important energy points.
Osteopathic medicine is another one of the alternative types of medicine.

Yoga is becoming very important in modern life, because it brings a healthy balance between the mind, body and spirit, and we can only feel good health if everything is OK.

I am a healthy person. When I'm sick, I usually go to see a M.D. of Conventional medicine.
I believe in all kinds of medicine if they are practiced by competent professionals.

Physical exercice as water aerobics and walking are effective solutions for a corrrection of incorrect posture of many years of work.

Health, Hygiene, and Safety at work

Currently, I'm retired from the work I had for 37 years. But when I worked, I was mainly seated at a desk, and these were the biggest risks of being injured:
· Back pain
· Rigidity of neck and shoulders;
· Pains and tension in the hands and fingers;
· Pains in the wrists
· Tired legs;
· Appearance of varicose veins;
· Eyes problems


These problems are often related with incorrect postures of the body, and with time they can be turned into serious diseases and incapacitate for the worker
As a consequence of this type of work, other types of problems are also found, being for example:
· - irritability;
· - anxiety;
· - depression
· - STRESS

To those conditions, other consequences are associated, such as:
- Lack of motivation and dissatisfaction in the work;
- Operational frequent mistakes.

Finally, these are translated in:
- Lack of productivity and quality.

We should avoid:
- To sit in strange postures
- To have the same posture during long periods of time;
- To lift objects frequently;
We should promote:
- To have the computer mouse near to the keyboard in order to reduce the movement of the shoulder;
- Usually, the computer mouse is more often used than the keyboard. We should divert a little the keyboard in order to handle the mouse in the most favorable area;
- From 45 to 80º of the eyes put the monitor to a distance, avoiding reflexes or very accented bright contrasts;
- The use of a support to put papers, books and impressions;
- To drop with relaxation the arms for the sides to avoid contractions;
- Small pauses for relaxation;
- To carry out small muscular exercises and exercises for the eyes.

Suggestions of exercises to perform:
- To breathe deeply in order to relax the muscles;
- To do massages in the hands and in the fingers to maintain the temperature in the hands and to reduce the rigidity and contractions in the fingers;
- To cross the hands behind the head and to stretch the arms backwards while breathing deeply. This is a good exercise;
- To shrug one's shoulders will help to reduce the tension and the rigidity of the superior part of the back and of the neck. For that, lift the shoulders and in the continuation relax them.

Health, Hygiene, and Safety at work

Hello. Next class we are going to watch a video ("Window on Britain"), and I would like to see you all in class.

Please don't forget to plan you work for DR2 - Higiene, Segurança e Saúde no Trabalho.
I hope that, besides the worksheet, the following questions may be of some help:

What are your working conditions?
Are there any specific regulations concerning hygiene and safety in your workplace?
Which safety precautions do you need to have at work?
Are there any dress codes, that is to say, do you need to wear any special clothes?
Do you spend many hours standing out? Do you take regular breaks? When you work in shifts [turnos], do you take special precautions?

Diet plan

The new year began!
For whom, like me, ate much cakes and is more fat, I'm going to put the diet plan, what a nutritionist did to me.

Besides this plan, I must do exercise.

I'm going to walk and I'm going to the swimming pool.

Wish me luck

Breakfast
• half a cup of milk (120ml) without sugar (can add some coffee or tea) or half a liquid thin yoghurt without sugar
• a loaf of bread or two” handfuls” of cereals (30-40g) “corn-flakes”, “Kellogg’s”) or 6 small cookies or 4 “cream-crackers”
• One slice of cheese (15g) or 1 small spoon of butter (5g)
Small lunch
• 3 small cookies or 2 “cream-crackers” or half a loaf of bread
• A piece of fruit
OR
• 1 cup of milk
lunch
SOUP– For one person for lunch or for dinner:
· 2 cups of vegetables or cabbage (200g) – (cabbage, pumpkin, carrots, onion, green beans, broccoli cauliflower, cucumber, , spinaches, mushrooms, turnip, tomato, etc)
· 1 small potato (80g) or a “handfuls” of rice, mass, dried beans, grens, lentils, (30g)
· 1 spoon of oil (to add on the end )
Main course
· 60g of meat ( without skins, bones, spines e visible fats) or 2 eggs of chicken
· 2 small potatoes or 2 handfuls of rice, mass, (40g) or 8 tablespoons of beans, grain, l lentils, other dry leguminous plants after cooked or 2 handfuls before cooked (60g) or 1 cup of spaghetti cooked “or a loaf of bread
· 100g of vegetables, cabbages and salad (half a cup) – Lettuce without restriction
DESSERTS
· A piece of fruit natural juice (120ml) or one Compal® Light:
100g – apple, orange, pear, kiwi, pineapple, peach, plum, tangerine
200g – melon, watermelon strawberry
50g – banane or grapes
1ª. snack
· A half cup of milk (120ml) or half liquid thin yoghurt or one solid thin yoghurt without sugar
· a loaf of bread whit a spoon of butter (or a half toast whit a little of butter) or 6 small cookies or 4 “cream-crackers” or 2 “handfuls” of cereals without sugar (30-40g) ( “corn-flakes”, “Kellogg’s”)
Dinner
· Identic to the lunch, alternating the meat and the fish whenever is possible
Alternative to the dinner
Soou
A loaf f bread or 3 cookies type “cream-crackers” or toast
A piece of fruit
After dinner
· Tea or coffee (without sugar)
· 3 small cookies or 2 type “cream-crackers” or 1 yogurt thin or a half cup of thin milk (120ml)
PROIBITION FOOD
sugar and sugary products (cakes, chocolates, frozen, cookies - except the allowed ones
honey, compote, jam, fruit jelly
bunches with fat, cream, chantilly
Soft drinks
aperitifs (of cheese, onion, ham, chips, etc.)
alcoholic drinks
sausage
Canned and pickles
chips • oil to season the whole day: 5 teaspoons of oil
PERMITTED DRINKS

Other recommendations:
to do a walk of half an hour every day .
not to jump meals, and to do the time-tables of the plan.
Never to be more than 3h/3h30 without eating.
not to eat the fruit separately, always to accompany with 3 small cookies or half a bread..
